READING FROM THE WORD OF GOD If you, O LORD, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness; therefore you are feared. I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I put my hope. My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning. O Israel, put your hope in the LORD, for with the LORD is unfailing love and with him is full redemption. He himself will redeem Israel from all their sins. Psalm 130:3-8 (NIV) Approaching death has a way of making us see issues clearly. As the soul plays a waiting game with eternity, all that is left is hope. Hope that the God who has promised He will throw our sins as far as the east is from the west will keep His promises. Hope that we will not have to stand on our own merits. Hope is an unusual word really. We often use it to mean that there is an element of doubt, but in the Scriptures, it has no such meaning. Hope, in the Bible, is an unfailing trust in God, who has proven Himself trustworthy. David knew it, and he had not seen the coming of the Saviour. Yet he had HOPE that He would come and redeem Israel. And you know what? He did come. We have much more evidence than David upon which to hope. So, today, let us live in that same hope! TESTIMONY "I AM GOING TO HELL WHEN I DIE" "I am going to Hell," I said, when asked if I was going to Heaven or Hell when I die. My life was spinning out of control at the time, totally obsessed with gambling. I got a bigger "high" from gambling than from alcohol. I had to have more and more money to satisfy my needs. I borrowed as much money as I could and then devised illegal methods to support my habit. When I was finally caught, I wrote a suicide note and put it in my wife's car but God was leading me in another direction. A friends's pastor pointed me to Jesus. Now, my addiction for gambling is replaced with a hunger for God's Word and my computer is busy downloading Bible Studies. Even my wife has gotten "saved." --Chuck. HAHAHA CORNER ***Explosion at the Factory A terrific explosion occurs in a gunpowder factory, and once all the mess has been cleared up, and inquiry begins. One of the few survivors is pulled up to make a statement. "Okay Simpson," says the investigator, "you were near the scene, what happened?" "Well, it's like this. Old Charley Higgins was in the mixing room, and I saw him take a cigarette out of his pocket and light up." "He was smoking in the mixing room?" the investigator said in stunned horror, "How long had he been with the company?" "About 20 years, sir" "20 years in the company, then he goes and strikes a match in the mixing room, I'd have thought it would have been the last thing he'd have done." "It was, sir." --Anon. *** QUIRKY QUIZ QUIPS Actual answers given by contestants on the game show The Family Feud: - Name something that floats in the bath - Water - Name something a blind person might use - A sword - Name a song with "moon" in the title - Blue Suede Moon - Something you do before going to bed - Sleep - Name a famous bridge - The bridge over troubled waters - A sign of the zodiac - April - Something slippery - A con man - A part of the body beginning with the letter 'N' - Knee - Something you do in the bathroom - Decorate ---submitted by Robert M. ***Saint Peter is standing duty at the Pearly Gates, when who should show up but 40 politicians. Saint Peter: "What do you want? Them: "We want in." Saint Peter: "Wait here. I'll have to go talk to God about this. Saint Peter departs briefly and goes to see God. Saint Peter: "Lord, there are 40 politicians at the Pearly Gates. They want in. What do I do?" God: "We've never had that many politicians at one time before. Go tell them, 40 politicians at one time are too many. Tell them we'll take 5 now, and the other 35 can try again later." Saint Peter: "As you wish, Lord." Saint Peter goes back to the Pearly Gates. Upon arriving, he immediately turns around and runs back to see God again. Saint Peter: "Lord! Lord! They're not there any more!" God: "What? You mean that the 40 politicians are gone?" Saint Peter: "No! The Pearly Gates!" --subnitted by Pat C ***Rules of Chocolate 1.If you've got melted chocolate all over your hands, you're eating it too slowly. 2.Chocolate covered raisins, cherries, orange slices & strawberries all count as fruit,so eat as many as you want. 3.The problem: How to get 2 pounds of chocolate home from the store in hot car. The solution: Eat it in the parking lot. 4.Diet tip: Eat a chocolate bar before each meal.
