We know that flowers, teddybears and chocolates make up the majority of gifts but we were just curious... what was the strangest gift you have ever received? Let us know. READING FROM THE WORD OF GOD You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:6-8 (NIV) St Valentine lived and died a long time ago and his life is largely unknown. Somehow, his name got associated with love, the gushy type. But what we do know of Valentine shows us clearly that the type of love he preached was not shot from a bow by Cupid. Valentine preached Christ's love. When he wrote from his prison cell "Remember your Valentine" he was not talking about romance. He was about to die for the faith he professed, faith in a Saviour who died on his behalf, when he was still a sinner. When he was not worth dying for, Christ paid the penalty for his shortcomings. Valentine knew this love and was prepared to preach it in the face of furious opposition from the Roman Emperor, and he was prepared to give up what he held dearest- his life- to make sure that others found out about that love. When you "Remember your Valentine" remember Christ and his perfect love for you. TESTIMONY "I’m going to kill myself”, I thought. I was a teenager. My life consisted of school, hate, pornography, and video games. Nobody noticed me, nobody talked to me. My life was such a confusing mess. One day my sister invited me to go to church. The people were so friendly. It felt like a family. I wanted to know their secret. At a summer camp the speaker told me how he had found Jesus. He told how Jesus died for him and for each of us. He explained how Jesus was like his best friend, and that he felt really free for the first time in his life. He said that if we invited Jesus into our lives we too, could feel free. He was right. I am now free and not lonely any more." Derek C. PRAYER POINTS ***Thank God for His perfect love, that reached out to us even when we were "not good enough" and covered all our sins. ***Praise God for His perfect Son, who willingly sacrificed His life for us. ***Praise God that He hears our prayers. ***Pray that He changes us to be more and more like Jesus. ***Keep praying for the trouble spots of the world, including the Guinea Coast of Africa that has erupted again. ***Pray for new governments that have recently been sworn in, that they will act justly and serve the people who elected them faithfully. ***Keep those with ongoing problems in your prayers: Roger, Amelia D,and their families. ***Let us pray for each other that the light of Jesus might shine from us into the world we live in. HAHAHA CORNER (The jokes this week are in honour of romance....sort of!LOL) ***On their wedding day he declared his love for her. He said he would swim the deepest river, cross the widest desert and climb the tallest mountain. She dumped him. He was never home! ***Someone asked the man:"Is your wife outspoken?" He replied: "Not by anyone I know of." ***My neighbour used to play the banjo until she married. Now she picks on her husband. *** When an eel bites your toe and he will not let go... that's a moray! *** She got a lovely kitten for for her husband. Her friend wondered if she could make a trade like that! ***What do farmers give their wives on Valentine's Day? Hogs and kisses! ***What do cavemen give their wives on Valentine's Day? Ughs and kisses. ***She asked her husband if he loved her. "Of course", he replied. "Then whisper something soft and sweet in my ear!" "Lemon meringue pie!" ***He asked her:" What would it take to get you to kiss me?" She replied, "An anaesthetic!" ***"Why is Harry's face all scratched?" "His girlfriend said it with flowers." "How romantic!" "Not really. She hit him round the head with a bunch of roses." ***Did you hear about the couple who met in a revolving door? They're still going round together! ===================================================== Oh dear! Now that's enough to make anyone's head start to spin! May God's love fill your life with much joy this week! Yours, Rocco and Sue. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
