Have you ever considered that cats could be the rulers of the universe? I mean, who else lies around all day, is largely incapable of serving any useful purpose, resists all offers of affection under any terms but their own, and yet gets fed!(hey, no spouse jokes, please! LOL) READING FROM THE WORD OF GOD This, then, is how you should pray: "Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be your name Your kingdom come Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one." Matthew 6:9-13 (NIV) We think we know the Lord's Prayer when we we can parrot the words in a Sunday School class, but do we really know it? Do we realise that Jesus must have said it many times with his disciples, because it is recorded twice in the New Testament. So what is its importance? Do we really need to learn how to pray? Doesn't everyone know how to call out to God? And therein lies the crux of the matter: most people call out to God only when they want something. Jesus teaches us to call on God on a daily basis (hence "daily bread" )and that prayer ought not be us-centred, but God-centred. So the prayer begins with God, and who he is, and a call for HIS kingdom to come and HIS will to be done. Only after we have accorded Him his due honour, can we rightfully move on to express our needs and the needs of others. The Lord's Prayer runs right against the grain of every other prayer system ever taught to humans. That's what makes it special. It was given by God's Son Himself. TESTIMONY Here is a testimony out of the streets of Belfast: "Born in N. Ireland, I went to church every Sunday, but never really knew Jesus until I nearly lost my life in a shooting accident. I spent my young life as a thief, vandal, and alcoholic. I was arrested twice, and suspended for bringing alcohol and weapons to school. At fifteen, my friend and I found a gun. Thinking it was empty, my friend pointed it at me and pulled the trigger. The injury left me paralysed from the shoulders down, like Christopher Reeve. Months later, a man came to see me in the hospital and on that day I was born again. Christ accepted me and I accepted Him. I regret that I didn't get to know God sooner. Jesus said that He would never leave us or forsake us. (Hebrews 13:5.) This is true. Please do not waste time as I did." John. PRAYER POINTS ** Thank God for sending His Son to teach us about Him. Thank Him for teaching us to pray. ** Thank God for new lives, both physical births (David Eli C.) and spiritual rebirths. ** Keep praying for unity in obedience in our churches and for the continued appreciation of God's grace. ** Pray for those who have had to take on extra burdens in congregations, that they may find their refreshment in Jesus. Pray also that God will raise up his children to serve where needed. ** Keep praying for Lynn D and Gina L in their last weeks of pregancy. ** Keep those with physical problems in your prayers, and those who have shared that they are under financial strain. Pray that God will supply their needs. ** The situations in Fiji and the Solomon Islands are still unresolved. Pray for the people in these nations, expecially our brothers and sisters in Christ. ** Warfare is still continuing in the hotspots of Indonesia, Ambon in particular. Pray for peace. **Keep the Scarcellas in your prayers as they travel to Bali in Indonesia. It is quiet there at present. Pray it stays that way. Thank God that all obstacles in relation to the extra baggage allowance requested have just been cleared! HAHAHA CORNER **A man walked out into the street in New York, and managed to flag down a taxi just driving by. He got into the taxi, and the cabbie said," Perfect timing. You're just like Dave." The passenger said,"Who?" The cabbie said, "Dave Bronson. Now there's a guy who did everything right.Like my coming along just when you needed a cab.It would have happened like that to Dave." The rider said,"Well, nobody's perfect." The cabbie said, "Dave was. He was a terrific athlete. He could have gone on the pro tour in golf. He could have played tennis with the best pros. He sang like an opera baritone, and danced like a Broadway star. He had a memory like a trap. Could remember everybody's birthday. He could fix anything, not like me. If I change even a fuse,I black out the whole neighborhood." The rider said,"No wonder you remember him." The cabbie said,"Well, no I never actually met Dave." The rider asked,"Then how do you know so much about him?" The cabbie exclaimed,"I married his widow!" -Submitted by Ian Shlasko **While handing a 25 cent-off coupon to the supermarket clerk at the checkout counter, a woman inadvertently missed her hand, and the coupon slipped beneath the scale and was gone. The checker looked distressed, so the woman said, "That's okay, it's in coupon heaven now." "Coupon heaven?", the checker said. "Yes", the woman said, "That's where coupons go when they die." "Only the redeemed ones!", said the checker. -submitted by Pat C **He who laughs last, thinks slowest. Everyone has a photographic memory. Some don't have film. A day without sunshine is like, well, night. On the other hand, you have different fingers. Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine. I just got lost in thought. It was unfamiliar territory. Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it. Those who live by the sword get shot by those who don't. I feel like I'm diagonally parked in a parallel universe. He's not dead, he's electroencephalographically challenged. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be misquoted, then used against you. I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges. Honk if you love peace and quiet. Despite the cost of living, have you noticed how it remains so popular? Latest survey shows that 3 out of 4 people make up 75% of the world's population. The things that come to those that wait may be the things left by those who got there first. Nothing is fool-proof to a sufficiently talented fool. It is said that if you line up all the cars in the world end to end, someone would be stupid enough to try and pass them. and finally: Just remember...if the world didn't suck, we'd all fall off. -submitted by Paul D ============================================================== In "The Briefing", an Australian Evangelical magazine, the editor recently had a jibe at the titles on some christian books. He found some how-to ones with slightly amusing titles. He challenged readers to write some titles. Here are some submissions. -1) Press On To The End: How to Programme Your Video Recorder with a Spiritual Touch. -2) The Mark Of The Beast: A Christian Guide to Pet Care -3) Winds of Change: Trends in Christian flute playing. and Dan Di Cristo submits: -"And Then There Was Light" A Spiritual Guide to Lighting the BBQ. Do you have any suggestions for potential book titles? We'll give you two weeks to think about it, while we are away, so you can make up some that are REALLY good! Please remember us in your prayers!
