Time to look back and see how God has been working in our lives, and thank Him for His help and presence. Time to look forward to what we can do out of thanks for His love. READING FROM THE WORD OF GOD O Lord, I call to you; come quickly to me. Hear my voice when I call to you. May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice. Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips. Let not my heart be drawn to what is evil, to take part in wicked deeds with men who are evildoers; let me not eat of their delicacies. Psalm 141:1-4 (NIV) When I began family history many years ago, I was shocked to be given a copy of a letter from my great-great-grandmother Euphemia to her daughter, Margaret outlining a family rift. The source of the trouble was grandmother Mary, who had SAID certain things round the family. It took a year to heal that breach, all because of words said that should not have been said. James calls the tongue "..a restless evil, full of deadly poison." We see that clearly in our daily lives; maybe we have spat that poison at others.(Maybe it was over a morning tea: watch those edible delicacies that can lead to the delicacies of slander and false witness!)The lips are indeed a door. From them can come praises, and from them can also come curses. Pray God today that our lips be stilled when it comes to criticism. -Sue. TESTIMONY We,who are on the net, know that it is a wonderful tool, but we must be aware of the dangers. Here, Louise from NZ tells us of the temptation to "chat" improperly. "The Internet nearly destroyed me. I joined one of the chat rooms. I did not realise what was happening until a guy started calling me "Sex Kitten." This guy made all sorts of perverse suggestions. I started to play the game right back to him. Suddenly I got cramps in all my fingers, and I could not type anymore. A voice as clear as daylight said to me, "Nothing can separate you from the love of God!" (Romans 8:38,39).I was in a fight against evil that finally caused me to faint. When I woke up, I saw the light of God's glory. I had survived the attack that Satan had launched against me. To this day I still say, "If you feel something is not right, pray to God and ask His guidance. And if THAT voice talks to you, obey and log off." Louise. PRAYER POINTS **Thank God that He has promised never to leave His children alone, and that He is with us in times of trial. **Praise God for His word, the Bible, where we can learn about Him and what He has done and can do. **Pray that He will control all of us, from the top of our heads to the soles of our feet, including that restless tongue! **We heard from Pammi about her nephew, Chip:"Chip is still being heavily medicated for pain, and is not very alert. However, since the surgery his vital signs have been good, and things are looking up... Thanks again for the prayers." Keep those prayers going! **Keep praying for the people of Fiji, as the situation is not resolving itself. Now a similar thing has happened in the Solomon Islands. Pray against a domino effect throughout the Pacific. **Several Christian villages on the Indonesian island of Halmahera have been attacked by Muslims. Last report had 34 dead. Pray for Indonesia. There are moves to secede in several areas including Aceh and Irian Jaya, and the coast of Sumatra has been struck by a severe undersea earthquake. No news yet on whether it was followed by a tsunami. **Pray for Sue as she and her sister go to see their sick mum in Queensland. Keep Barbara their mother in your prayers. **Keep praising God for good results of the Fresh Start Outreach. Let us not lose momentum but press on telling people about Jesus' great love. **Keep praying for congregations where there is division. May Satan be restrained. **Pray for Barry B, who has been operated on for eye problems this week, and for Jenny P, who has serious heart problems. HAHAHA CORNER **Nine-year-old Aaron came home from the playground with a bloody nose, black eye, and torn clothing. It was obvious he'd been in a bad fight and lost. While his father was patching him up, he asked his son what happened. "Well, Dad," said Aaron, "I challenged Larry to a duel. And, you know, I gave him his choice of weapons." "Uh-huh," said the father, "that seems fair." "I know, but I never thought he'd choose his sister!" --submitted by Pat C **GRAMMAR SCHOOL STUDENTS' ACTUAL QUOTES ON MUSIC: * The principal singer of nineteenth century opera was called pre-Madonna. * Sherbet composed the Unfinished Symphony. * Young scholars have expressed their rapture for the Bronze Lullaby, the Taco Bell Cannon and Gershwin's Rap City in Blue. * Music sung by two people at the same time is called a duel; if they sing without music it is called Acapulco. * A virtuoso is a musician with real high morals. * Diatonic is a low calorie Schweppes. * Probably the most marvelous fugue was the one between the Hatfields and the McCoys. * The correct way to find the key to a piece of music is to use a pitchfork. --submitted by Jennie Graham **Impossible The teacher asked her class what each wanted to become when they grew up. A chorus of responses came from all over the room. "A football player," "A doctor," "An astronaut," "The president," "A fireman," "A teacher," "A race car driver." Everyone that is, except Tommy. The teacher noticed he was sitting there quiet and still. So she said to him, "Tommy, what do you want to be when you grow up?" "Possible" Tommy replied. "Possible?" asked the teacher. "Yes," Tommy said. "Mom is always telling me I'm impossible. So when I get to be big, I want to be possible." --submitted by Rose T **Blonde Emergency Repair Kit Josh was helping Sally, the blonde, clean out the trunk of her car. Inside, he noticed a bag labeled "Emergency Repair Kit." Looking at it a little closer, he noticed a stick of dynamite inside. Thinking that was a bit strange, he asked Sally what it was for. She said, "It's part of my emergency repair kit." Josh said, "I can see that, but why?" Sally replied, "In case I have a flat and need to blow up one of my tires." --submitted by Wayne Sole **Your daily moment of wisdom... 1. Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either; for goodness' sake, just leave me alone! 2. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a broken fan belt and a leaky tire. 3. It's always darkest before dawn. So if you're going to take your neighbor's newspaper, that's the time to do it.(Ed. We do not advise this! LOL) 4. Don't be irreplaceable; if you can't be replaced, you can't be promoted. 5. No one is listening until you make a mistake. 6. Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else. 7.If you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of car payments. 8. Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes. 9. If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it. 10. Timing has an awful lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance. --submitted by Ren O'Dell ======================================= Anybody got a heat dance for Australia? We went under freezing on Sunday and looks like it won't let up for a while! Brrrrrrrrrrrr.
