Sue peeped out from under the covers this morning and vowed to retire to a warmer climate. Yes, Virginia, there is more to Australia than beaches and sunshine! LOL READING FROM THE WORD OF GOD Now Naomi had a relative on her husband's side, from the clan of Elimelech, a man of standing, whose name was Boaz. Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, "Let me go to the fields and pick up the leftover grain behind anyone in whose eyes I find favour. Naomi said to her,"Go ahead,my daughter." So she went out and began to glean in the fields behind the harvesters. As it turned out, she found herself working in a field belonging to Boaz, who was from the clan of Elimelech. --Ruth 2:1-3 Have you ever thought of yourself as unimportant? As a mere cog in a big wheel, a nobody of importance to no one and to history? I'm sure that the main characters in this true story felt so. First, there was Naomi(whose name, ironically meant 'pleasant'), whose life had been anything but pleasant. Drought had forced her family into temporary exile in Moab, where both husband and both sons died. Naomi had nothing left: she wanted to be called Mara, "bitter", because God had dealt her bad cards. Then there was Ruth, Naomi's loyal and godly daughter-in-law. Ruth gave up the chance to return to her own people, because she now could not believe as they did: she worshipped the True God and wanted to stay with Naomi. Now it was Ruth who was the foreigner, the outcast, the unloved widow. And what of Boaz? He had some wealth but he had no family of his own. He, too, was alone. Yet, through the four brief chapters of this book, we can see the hand of God in action. "As it turned out", Ruth ended up in Boaz' field; "Just then" Boaz arrived home. The story catapults from there. Behind the formalities lies an obvious and instant attraction. Ruth knows she must follow the Law of God, but God is working for her good. Boaz moves to settle things "today", when he becomes aware of her interest. Together, these "no-ones" from "nowhere important" become the great-grandparents of King David, and ultimately the start of a line that culminates in the birth of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. TESTIMONY The Silversmith Some time ago, a few ladies met in a certain city to study the scriptures. While reading the third chapter of Malachi, they came upon a remarkable expression in the third verse: "And He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver (Malachi 3:3)" One lady proposed to visit a silversmith, and report to them on what he said about the subject. She went accordingly, and without telling the object of her errand, begged the silversmith to tell her about the process of refining silver. After he had fully described it to her, she asked, "But Sir, do you sit while the work of refining is going on?" "Oh, yes madam," replied the silversmith; "I must sit with my eyes steadily fixed on the furnace, for if the time necessary for refining be exceeded in the slightest degree, the silver will be injured." The lady at once saw the beauty, and comfort too, of the expression, "He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver." God sees it needful to put His children into a furnace; His eye is steadily intent on the work of purifying, and His wisdom and love are both engaged in the best manner for us. Our trials do not come at random, and He will not let us be tested beyond what we can endure. Before she left, the lady asked one final question, "When do you know the process is complete?" "Why, that is quite simple," replied the silversmith. "When I can see my own image in the silver, the refining process is finished." HAHAHA CORNER **YOU KNOW YOU ARE NO LONGER A KID WHEN: Saturday mornings are for sleeping. You are taller than the slide at the McDonald's playland. Your parents' jokes are now funny. Christmas starts to bug you. Naps are good. Hitting girls is no longer considered flirting. The only thing in your cereal box is...cereal. You leave concerts and ballgames early to beat the crowd. You WANT clothes for Christmas. You've bought an album on vinyl. You remember seeing Star Wars when it first came out. You read the "if you were born on this day in 1976 you are of legal age to buy alcohol" sign at the liquor store and recall attending a high school dance on that date. You look in the surveillance camera monitor at the convenience store, wonder who that guy is standing at the counter with the bald spot, and then realize it is a shot of you from behind. --ANON. **WHY TEACHERS GO CRAZY** TEACHER: George, go to the map and find North America. GEORGE: Here it is! TEACHER: Correct. Now, class, who discovered America? CLASS: George! --------------------------------------------------------- TEACHER: Why are you late? WEBSTER: Because of the sign. TEACHER: What sign? WEBSTER: The one that says, "School Ahead, Go Slow." --------------------------------------------------------- TEACHER: John, I hope I didn't see you looking at Don's paper. JOHN: I hope you didn't either. --------------------------------------------------------- GARY: I don't think I deserve a zero on this test. TEACHER: I agree, but it's the lowest mark I can give you. --------------------------------------------------------- TEACHER: Well, at least there's one thing I can say about your son. FATHER: What's that? TEACHER: With grades like these, he couldn't be cheating. --------------------------------------------------------- TEACHER: In this box, I have a 10-foot snake. SAMMY: You can't fool me, Teacher... snakes don't have feet. --------------------------------------------------------- HYGIENE TEACHER: How can you prevent diseases caused by biting insects? JOSE: Don't bite any. --------------------------------------------------------- --submitted by Rose T ** Differences in the Middle Ages if Microsoft Had Existed: Last year's pitchfork not compatible with this year's hay.
