Good morning from Australia! READING FROM THE WORD OF GOD O Lord, open my lips and my mouth will declare your praise. You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. Psalm 51:15-17 (NIV) A lovely happy psalm? Not really. These verses come from one of the most heart-wrenching pieces of poetry every written. Psalm 52 was composed after the death of David's baby son, the child Bathsheba gave birth to. David had been exposed to public shame by the prophet Nathan. Out in the open was his affair with a married woman, his active part in the death of her husband, and that the child was conceived out of wedlock. Fallen was Israel's hero. The whole nation now knew what he had done. The pagan nations around were belly-laughing. This was God's anointed? David was humiliated throughout all the known world, and he had let God and Israel down. Where was he to go? What was he to do? Weak though he was, David knew one thing - the difference between GOOD GRIEF and BAD GRIEF. Faced with similar shame, Judas hanged himself. David went to his knees. He confessed his sin publicly, and received forgiveness from the One he had wronged most of all. Yes, he still had to endure the scorn of the pagan nations, and the looks and the cluckings and the gossip, and the pain of a dead son, but he began life anew, cleansed by the blood of Jesus, the Son of David. TESTIMONY This is a powerful testimony from the Carribbean: "Born in Trinidad, my mother, the High Priestess of Voodoo, taught me the rituals of demonic activity. She programmed me to be her medium and to eventually succeed her. For eighteen years I served Satan, until the Lord delivered me. He delivered me from the sin of withcraft, black and white magic, from the cult of Shango, and from the Orisha cult. I have also been delivered from the mind reader's clubs like the Rosicrusian, and Mayans, the Occult Club, with its bell, book and candle rituals, from all the bad books like the Kaballistic, and the Albertus Magnus and from Tarot Cards and the Ouija board. Today I am walking in the light of Jesus and serving Him." --Maria.
